# How can I use my macOS laptop with the lid closed while connected to the docking station?

To use your macOS laptop with the lid closed while connected to a docking station, open **System Preferences → Energy Saver** and set the available power or sleep setting to **Never**.

For the Mac to remain active with the lid closed, it must also be connected to power and have an external display, keyboard, and mouse connected.

**Important**

- Connect your Mac to power when using it with the lid closed.
- Make sure an external display, keyboard, and mouse are connected.
- macOS settings may vary depending on your Mac model and version of macOS.
- Newer versions of macOS may have different power and sleep settings than older versions.
