# What do M.2 2230, 2242, and 2280 mean?

These numbers identify the physical dimensions of an M.2 SSD. The first two digits represent the width in millimeters, and the remaining digits represent the length. Common sizes include:

- 2230 = 22mm × 30mm
- 2242 = 22mm × 42mm
- 2280 = 22mm × 80mm

The SSD must physically fit inside the device and align with the motherboard mounting position.

**Important**

The correct interface alone is not enough. An SSD that is too long or too short for the mounting location may not install properly even if the connector is compatible.
